Digiverse Summit at Bader Intermediate

Today, we spent our Teacher Only Day at this fantastic Digiverse Day, hosted by Bader Intermediate and attended by 4 local schools - Bader Intermediate, Mangere Central School, Nga Iwi Primary and our very own Jean Batten School.

The main aim of the day was to provide a smorgasbord of ‘taster’ digital workshops for all teachers to explore and have some hands-on experience with new technology or to learn more about technology we are already using. It was also a day for teachers to participate in professional development and build networks with like-minded local teachers.

Part of my teaching appraisal goal for this year is based around student having agency with Digital Technology, so this was a perfect way for me to explore ways to engage the students with technology and also learn with new technologies and equipment. I came away with some great ideas and also feel be equipped towards my appraisal goal.

I had a blast and enjoyed the learning and networking and I have lots of new lots material I can use in my classroom.

I just can't wait for the next one......

A quick introduction about me.

Kia ora koutou (hello all)

Welcome to my personal teacher blog, where I'll be posting Blogs about my teaching journey and sharing some wisdom I have learned along the way.

My name is Steve Matthews and I am a PCT (Provisionally Certificated Teacher) in my second year of teaching. I am loving my new career and I know I have what it takes to becoming an effective teacher.

It will also link to my appraisal goal of " enhancing student agency using digital technology". My students are 7-9 years old, and a lot of them have no experience using computers, so this is a huge learning process for them and also a huge teaching challenge for me towards reaching my goal. It is definitely a "one-small-step" at a time journey for all.

This is me with my 2020 year 3/4 class at Jean Batten School in Mangere, Tamaki Makaurau, Auckland.
